The 10 Best Quiet Bed Frames

Following you will find 10 of the best quiet bed frames–along with some of the reasons we picked them. People have many different requirements–from room size limitations to price limitations. Hopefully, by the end of the article, I have provided enough options for you to make an informed choice that fits into your situation.

Note: You will probably find some sites recommending the ‘Best Bed Frame for Sex’. I have discovered that bed frame considerations rate very low when sex is imminent. This is not a sex site. It is a quiet site. I provide quiet bed frame information. You provide the sex. (Although I might refer to it a little.)

1) ZINUS Justina Mattress Foundation

The ZINUS Justina Mattress Foundation is not only quiet, but doubles as a box spring providing a decorative finish to the bed frame and providing a cloth base for the mattress. The tight cover makes a solid, quiet frame even better. 2023 Good Design Award winner from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

The poly cover is a zip-free installation that pulls over the assembled frame providing a wide, rich, heavy look c/w heavy solid wood legs, that is easily mistaken for a much more expensive bed frame. Quick and easy bolt-free assembly.

The Good

  • Steel frame c/w solid wood legs and poly cover.
  • Available in 3 colors, 3 heights, and multiple sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • 9 legs for solid support.
  • Easy assembly (tools included).
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • Some reviews report that the cover could be difficult to get onto the frame. (Especially without reading the instructions, and while drinking a significant amount of wine. Reviewer’s words–not mine.)
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors.

2) ZINUS Shalini Upholstered Platform Bed Frame

The ZINUS Shalini Upholstered Platform Bed Frame comes complete with a headboard, unlike the ZINUS Justina above. The perimeter boards of the bed frame are also covered with woven fabric to match the headboard. As with most ZINUS headboard products, the Shalini comes in one box with all of the parts, tools, and fasteners zipped into the compartment on the rear of the headboard. This also makes moving the bed to a new home very easy. Just take it apart, pack all of the parts back into the headboard, and away you go.

ZINUS was founded in South Korea in 1979. They have been making award-winning bed frames and mattresses–among other things–since then.

The Good

  • Steel Frame c/w wood slats (steel frame incorporated into headboard).
  • Available in 3 colors and multiple sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • 9 legs for solid support
  • Supports up to 700 lbs. (Twin supports up to 350 lbs.).
  • Easy assembly (tools included)
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • A couple of reviews from 2023 and 2023 report bedbugs in the headboard. If you decide to purchase this product, make absolutely certain they have solved the problem. (I would actually talk to someone instead of just clicking ‘Order Now’.)
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors.

3) Amazon Basics Foldable Metal Platform Bed Frame

The Amazon Basics Foldable Metal Platform Bed Frame provides an economic bed frame that is quick to set up and noise free. This very simple design resembles a card table or folding chairs in its ease of set up. And take down. It is perfect for overnight company because it can be stored almost anywhere such as under the chesterfield. Easy to take down and move. Or use it as a permanent bed frame. It does not come with a headboard, nor with the means to attach one.

The Good

  • Black welded steel frame.
  • Available in multiple sizes. (Queen and larger made up of 2 separate sections.)
  • No box box spring required.
  • 6 legs per section.
  • Each section supports up to 250 lbs.
  • Quick and simple ‘fold open’ set up. (Just as quick and easy to fold back together for storage if you are only using it occasionally.)

The Not so Good

  • Totally flat profile does not have a lip to keep mattress in place. But each corner has 2 holes that a creative person could use to bolt a plastic stop to. Or a little judiciously applied Velcro on the frame and bottom of the mattress could solve the problem.
  • Not headboard compatible.
  • Some reports of sharp edges that could cut flesh or the mattress.
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors.

4) Olee Sleep Heavy Duty Steel Slat Bed Frame

The Olee Sleep Heavy Duty Steel Slat bed frame is a solid, bolt-together unit that will prevent movement and remain quiet for years. The slats are lower than the perimeter of the frame. The resulting lip holds the mattress in place and eliminates movement. Although it does not come with a headboard, one set of end legs have pre-punched holes that will accept one, if you prefer. The legs come with plastic feet to protect laminate and hardwood floors. (Reports of the bed moving on laminate or hardwood floors suggest that non-slip furniture pads should be added to the leg bottoms.)

The Good

  • Noise-free construction (all hardware and tools included).
  • Black welded and bolt-together steel frame makes it very solid.
  • Available in multiple sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • Perimeter lip prevents mattress slip.
  • Headboard compatible.
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • Memory foam mattress will likely require 1/4″ plywood under it because of slat spacing. The mattress could mold itself to the slats creating a wavy bed.
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors.

5) Mellow Metal Platform Bed Frame

The Mellow Metal Platform Bed Frame is solid steel construction in either black or grey. Winner of the Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. One of the few bed frames that is designed with full length perimeter rails and cross-brace rails that sit on the floor for extra stability. Slat support slots and center support rail are rubber-lined. The design, and attention to detail, should make it noise-free for years. 12″ low profile makes it easy to get into and out of.

The Good

  • Quiet, solid, noise free construction.
  • Welded and bolted construction c/w full length bottom rails–black or grey.
  • Available in multiple sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • Quick, easy assembly–all hardware and tools included.

The Not so Good

  • A little annoying to run a vacuum under the bed because it comes with bottom rails instead of legs.
  • May need double sided carpet tapeto keep it from moving on hardwood or laminate floors. (X-Protector non-slip furniture pads will also work but you will need quite a few of them. Put one every 16″ – 24″ under the rails to prevent warping.)
  • No perimeter lip to prevent mattress from slipping. Suggestions: Non-slip shelf liner. Velcro. Creative hard plastic retainers inserted between leg and top rails.
  • Not headboard ready.

6) King Size Metal Bed Frame-7 Inch Heavy Duty Bedframe

I did not place this bed frame higher because it is ‘Currently Unavailable’ from Amazon. I am including it because it is the one we have been using for over 20 years. And it is still soundless. If you want an inexpensive bed frame that works, and you can find one of these, get it. The King Size Metal Bed Frame-7 Inch Heavy Duty Bedframe is theoretically capable of holding 3000 lbs. I am not going to park a truck on my bed, so the rating may be a little more than required. This inexpensive frame does not come with a headboard, but one end has brackets for one, if desired. The entire frame is adjustable for different size mattresses and requires no tools to assemble.

The Good

  • Quiet, solid steel construction.
  • Quick, easy assembly. No tools required.
  • Available in various sizes.
  • Perimeter stops prevent box spring from slipping.
  • Headboard compatible.
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • Requires a box spring.
  • Not particularly cute or sexy. But you do not see much of it anyway.

7) ZIYOO 14 Inch Platform Metal Bed Frame

The ZIYOO 14 Inch Platform Metal Bed Frame is a steel frame/wood slat combination bed frame boasting a 3500 lb. static support capacity. (Apparently enough to hold your pet elephant.) This frame is quiet, noise free, and sturdy. Easy to assemble and rock solid when done. One pair of legs comes with punched, slotted holes for a headboard. (Purchased separately.)

The Good

  • Quiet, steel frame construction c/w 3.15″ wide wooden slats for mattress support.
  • Quick, easy assembly. All required hardware and tools included.
  • Available in various sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • Silent cushioning gasket on legs.
  • Non-slip design keeps mattress in place.
  • Headboard compatible.
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • Legs are slotted for headboard and footboard brackets. But they are only made to accept ZIYOO products. Which cuts down options.

8) HomeLife Premiere Classics Platform Bed

The HomeLife Premiere Classics Platform Bed comes complete with a headboard. The solid construction provides a quiet, sturdy platform that does not require a box spring. (Two center supports with 3 legs each.) The perimeter of the frame and headboard are covered in linen, giving it a rich box spring and mattress appearance. Wooden slat support system is recessed below the frame to allow mattresses to fit snug and secure, without the possibility of sliding.

The Good

  • Sturdy wood frame and wood slat construction provide a quiet platform.
  • Fairly quick and easy assembly.
  • Available in full, queen, and king sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • Wood slats are recessed to provide a raised rim–keeping mattress in place.
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • A couple of reviews from 2023 report bedbugs in the headboard. If you are considering this product, make sure you talk to someone to ensure the issue has been resolved.
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors

9) ZINUS Gerard Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed Frame

The ZINUS Gerard Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed Frame is a quiet, sturdy steel-frame/wood slat unit with faux leather headboard and perimeter panels. All parts, hardware, and tools are contained in the zipped pocket on the rear of the headboard. (Making it easy to assemble and disassemble and pack if you are moving homes.) Wooden slats are attached to a Velcro strip that sits on the bed frame making placement and spacing simple. The center supports have a rubber gasket full length for the slats to sit on–eliminating any rubbing noise.

The Good

  • Steel frame c/w wood slats spaced 3.19″ apart.
  • Quick, easy assembly. All required hardware and tools included.
  • Available in various sizes.
  • No box spring required.
  • Headboard included.
  • 5 year warranty.

The Not so Good

  • Slats are flush with the frame so the mattress may slide around a bit. A couple of strips of Velcro or non-slip drawer liner applied to some of the slats should solve the problem. (Depending on your mattress weight, this might not be a problem.)
  • May require X-Protector non-slip furniture pads on hardwood or laminate floors.

10) SimLife Metal Platform Bed Frame c/w Headboard & Footboard

The SimLife Metal Platform Bed Frame c/w Headboard & Footboard is the perfect quiet bedframe for children. The solid steel construction provides extra height for toy storage, junk, and the monster under the bed. Complete with modern style metal headboard and footboard, it will add a little zip to the bedroom.

The Good

  • Comes with headboard and footboard.
  • Quiet, steel construction.
  • Quick, easy assembly.
  • No box spring required.
  • Available in white or black.
  • Rated up to 176 lbs.

The Not so Good

  • Only available in twin size.
  • Rated up to 176 lbs. May not be suitable for large adults. (Although it seems confused and rates itself at 250 lbs. also. I would stick with the lower number.)

Why We Selected These Quiet Bed Frame

Bed Frames that Don’t Squeak

Squeaky bed frames disturb sleep. When you roll over. When you move. Some sleep studies found that the average person will move up to 32 times while sleeping. That is a lot of squeaking–especially if you sleep two to a bed. Sleep disruptions increase stress, cause mood disorders, reduce productivity, etc. (You can find way more information from this National Institute of Health study.)

So although a squeaking bed frame can be seen as a minor irritation, it can become something more serious.

Quiet Sturdy Bed Frames for Active Couples

As important as good sleep is, beds are also used for other purposes. Having a squeaky accompanying rhythm going at certain times may not increase the pleasure of the moment. And having the damn thing collapse at a critical moment could be truly annoying.

So having a quiet, solid bed frame will eliminate even more stress from your life.

Best Platform Bed Frames that are Available

This is kind of a no-brainer. Other than #6, all of these products are available as I write this. There is no point in listing quiet bed frames you cannot get. Doing that is truly a disservice to our readers and an exercise in futility for the writer. We are trying to uncomplicate your life–not create frustration. We would like you to trust us and come back.

Note: Having said that–the Mellon bed frame became ‘Out of Stock’ since I started writing this. I did not remove it from the list because I think it will return soon.

Obviously, I have not tried every bed frame recommended, but I make every effort to read reviews, check out manufacturer’s websites, and provide useful information.

FAQs About Quiet Bed Frame

What is the quietest platform bed frame?

All of the frames listed will provide quiet, sturdy support. I have tried to include various types and styles to allow for individual tastes.

How much does a quiet platform bed cost?

Because of the wide range of styles, sizes, and options, there is not really a definitive answer. But you can probably find one for under $100 and get up to $1000 pretty easily–depending on your choice of bells and whistles.

How much storage room is there under the beds?

Many of these bed frames have multiple height options–usually from about 10″ up to 18″. If storage height is one of your main concerns, make sure you choose one that meets your needs.

What about bed frames with drawers?

I did not include any bed frames with drawers on the assumption that more loose and moving parts equals more chances of noise. I do not want to suggest a bed frame that has the possibility of sounding like an empty barrel rolling across the floor.

End Notes

Here are my choices for the best quiet bed frames. Although any of the recommended products are virtually noiseless. The one you eventually choose should meet your needs and fit into your budget.

Runner-up for Best Quiet Bed Frame

The Olee Sleep Heavy Duty Steel Slat bed frame comes in a close second–at least partly because I like things that bolt together.

  • Multiple sizes and heights.
  • Frame encloses mattress to prevent slipping.
  • Headboard compatible.
  • 5 year warranty.

Personal Notes

Just a personal gripe: We have a king size bed and have been wondering for years why the mattresses are not made square so the sheets will fit whichever way you put them on. The 4″ difference is annoying.

Many of these bed frames come complete with the tools required to assemble them. I usually do not pay much attention to them, because my experience with ‘tools provided’ is not stellar–Allen wrenches that twist and break off, flat little wrenches that spread when any amount of force is applied, or screwdrivers custom-made to round out the screw head. Even some of the reviews mention the poor quality of supplied tools. Choosing a bed frame because ‘tools’ come with it may not work out well.
